Book Quilts

I was recently looking for a quick quilt to make for a friend who had just had a baby, and I came across a Paddington Bear quilt kit at Patchwork with Gail B which was made from a fabric book panel.

I thoroughly enjoyed making the quilt and was thrilled with the result.

Fabric Book BlockSo when another friend had a baby thought perhaps I could repeat the trick.

I found in my stash a brightly colored counting book panel called “Fuzzy Friends” and thought it also could make a gorgeous quilt, along with lots of bright coordinating colours.

I calculated the best size of small rectangles to fit with the book blocks, and made it up with a big block of small rectangles in the centre and the book blocks spaced around the outside, with more rectangles in between.

Now you can’t get easier than that! And the result was really fun.

Fabric Book QuiltHad I made it as a cot quilt, I most likely would have finished it the proper way with cotton batting and backing.

But since I was making it as a floor rug, and fully expect it to be used for teddy bears picnics, a super-hero cape, a cubby house and a magic carpet among other things, I have backed it with polar fleece to make it extra snuggly.

Shh! Please don’t tell the quilt police.

Happy Quilting
